Did you stop by the Local Food Project booth at the Green Festival October 10 and 11 and pick up a free lettuce seedling? Then check out the pictures below to figure out what variety you have! Keep visiting Sixteen Foot Ladder in the coming weeks to see how the same lettuce varieties are faring in our hoophouse.

I visited your booth today and the lady there could sign and it was great communicating with her! (I'm an American Sign Language user). I see I got the "Captain" one from your booth. From what the lady told me, I'm to plant it outside (by my dying tomatoes ha)... It feels strange to be planting it in October! Looking forward to see how it fares. Thank you, creative way to advertise your organization, by giving away lettuce seedlings. Only suggestion I would make is to avoid these plastic tabs (that is if they are plastic) that go into the dirt, try other material instead? Thank you again!
Thanks for stopping by, Raychelle. I'm glad Anika was there to sign with you! Let us know how your lettuce does. And thanks for the feedback on the plastic tabs--we're always looking for more ways to be green!
I visited your booth and got my baby lettuce plant. Thank you, I am very excited to have just planted it. I cannot tell which one I have though. I know it is either Yugoslavian Red Butterhead or Forellenschluss. Can you give me any more clues to help me figure out which it is. Thanks,
Matthew G Myers
Hi Matthew, that's awesome that you found a home for your little seedling! If the leaves are pale green with red speckles, then you definitely have Forellenschluss. If it's deep, solid red, it's Yugoslavian. And if it's a medium red with broader leaves, you've got Rouge D'Hiver. I hope this helps! Let us know how it goes.
